Full Description

The Savage River will live up to its name.

The Savage River is a classic whitewater run. The Savage is small but action packed. From start to finish it is non-stop class 2-4 whitewater for 5 miles. The Savage is a small stream that really gets going like a wild river when they open up the Savage River reservoir for a whitewater release. This section of the Savage was the home of the 1988 and 1989 World Kayak and Canoe Championships. The first 2.5 miles has most of the big action. The last 2.5 mile the river still keeps moving but the rapids are more class 2-3. This is a hard one to catch but we have worked out a schedule of release weekends in July, August, and September.

About The Operator:

Precision Rafting

Headquarters:

Friendsville, Maryland

Established:

August 2010

Precision Rafting was founded by Roger Zbel and Phil Coleman in 1981 as a small company in Western Maryland to escape the already crowded rivers of West Virginia. At this point there were no self-bailing rafts and everyone in the business thought that rafting on the Upper Youghiogheny (Yough, for short) just couldn't be done. After several years of rafting the Upper Yough successfully more companies thought that it could be done and the crowds followed.

Today, Precision Rafting is the largest whitewater outfitter on the Upper Yough and provides the finest Whitewater Rafting near Deep Creek lake Maryland. From April through October we run exciting white water rafting trips down the Upper Youghiogheny (pronounced: "Yock"—rhymes with "rock") Cheat, Big Sandy, North Branch of the Potomac, and Savage rivers. Precision Rafting is your premiere whitewater outfitter for guided raft trips, scenic float trips, duckie trips (inflatable kayaks), and kayak lessons. Precision Rafting wants to make your next rafting adventure a very special and memorable experience, from mild to wild Precision Rafting has the right trip for you.
