Two peaks, 13 scenic viewpoints, one rugged hike!
Join us on a six-mile, moderate-to-challenging hike to Storm King Mountain. We will be stunned by 13 high overlooks, spanning far up and down the Hudson River, Breakneck Ridge and West Point. Together with Breakneck Ridge across the river, these prominent bluffs form the picturesque gateway to the Hudson Highlands. The summit rises 1380 feet above the river. It was this view that inspired the Hudson River School of artists.
Our hike will start with an immediate, steep climb followed by several more undulating climbs to the peak, then across to another peak. Some scrambling will be required. You must be in good physical shape for this hike.
Please carefully consider your fitness level and abilities before signing up for this hike. This is a strenuous hike with rigorous elevation change and only fit, experienced hikers should attend. If you have any question about your suitability for this trip, please call us. If you are new to hiking, please choose a different hike-we offer plenty of moderate level hikes!
Event Details
Bring lunch, 3 liters water (minimum per person) in a backpack (no shoulder bags), and hiking poles if you have them.
Wear weather-appropriate athletic clothing (jacket, layers, comfortable athletic pants (not jeans), hat, gloves, and hiking boots (hiking boots are required).
Departure Time: 9:00 AM. Please arrive at 8:45 AM for check-in. Please check weekend subway schedules! Our trips leave on time.
Return Time: Approximately 6:00 PM.
Departure Location: Union Square: 4th Avenue between 14th and 15th in front of Starbucks
